Hi, I'm
Nicolas
Schoffers, a Cologne (Germany) based graphic designer with the
experience and motivation to bring your ideas to life, as much
on screen than in print.
With a background in both physics and graphic design, I
approach projects with precision and
experimentation in
equal measure. Naturally curious, I'm constantly learning,
exploring new ideas, and developing new skills.
Go ahead and challenge me. Or take a moment to explore this
website and get to know me better.
Why me ?
If you're here, you're probably looking for someone who can
create or refine the visual identity of what you do best. Your
work will surely spark my
curiosity,
and that curiosity drives me to understand your ideas, goals,
and needs in depth.
I'm highly motivated to
collaborate
closely with my clients and partners, ensuring every design
feels thoughtful, relevant, and individually tailored.
My strengths ?
Curiosity
and versatility are at the core of my work. They allow me to
adapt to your needs and
collaborate
with you toward the most effective design solution for your
project.
My approach, both scientific and artistic, is precise yet
flexible, evolving organically through my own
experimentation
and your precious feedback.

Stellar Interferometry
My bachelor thesis in design focused on accessible design
solution for science communication in the field of
near-inferred stellar interferometry, a branch of physics I
already work on for my bachelor thesis in physics. The final
product consists of a self-programmed interactive HTML and
JavaScript website containing pixel art animations and
illustrations reflecting the discussed subjects. The website
contains a pixelated variant of the classic Times New Roman
typeface designed for it. Currently the website is optimised
for desktop screens.
During an international workshop at ECV Paris in March 2023,
I had the chance to learn the newest design methods from the
founders of WARRIORS STUDIO in Edinburgh.
The attendees' mission was to freely rethink the visual
communication design and methods of the Scottish design
festival International Assembly.
My concept was to use the programming tools I had at my
disposal at the time to generate a digital halftone wave
moving across the rolling text. Therefore, the posters and
logos could be used both in print or on screen as a moving
video.
The design won the Best Poster Design award.
ever so tiny
ever so tiny is a new DIY jewellery also brand based in
Cologne. For their launch, I was responsible for designing
their corporate identity by brainstorming their name,
creating their logo, choosing their brand's colour scheme
and helping creating their website.
Since the products are made out of fine glass beads, I
wanted to reflect that in the overall corporate identity by
designing a logo, inspired by other jewellery brands: it had
to be elegant, with subtle serifs, but still unique with the
integration of the fine beads in some of the name's
glyphs.
The user manual had to be created following the elegant
design but being readable for customers of all DIY
backgrounds. A measuring Tape was added to it, following its
design.
My passion for typography combined with my programming
skills motivated me to create my own font generator. The
project is still a work in progress, but already contains a
variety of variables controllable using about 40 sliders and
switches.
The goal is to be able to design a new typeface with a lot
of personality in a short time for headlines or logos. Hence
the name Typoiesis combining the greek words typo (mark,
form) and poiesis (bringing into existence) stands for the
uniqueness of each font created using this tool.
The tool is designed to be inclusive and didactic since each
cursor or button has a short explanation in each supported
language to describe their terminology and effects.
Since 2019, I have been actively involved in the corporate
identity development of the acrobat duo.
Inspired by the 1920s universe of their shows and through
constant dialogue with both of them, I created their
business card, website, and multiple props for their
shows.
Their website has been optimized to be curated quite easily
by the duo without needing further help from developers or
designers, while having some unique features that make the
site stand out.
My first graphic novel, whose narration contains no words,
but an awful lot of numbers! The book was initially thought
to be a Riso-print experiment but ended up being a nearly
60-page-long graphic novel about the scary infinite length
of π, with a funny plot filled with unconventional twists.
It has also been printed on a roll.
The Century magazine is a concept developed during my layout
classes. It is a single A0 paper, folded over and over to
the size of an A4 booklet that gives the reader insights
into the most important events that happened a century ago.
The text and images were obtained with the help of different
AI tools.
Out of Love
This projection was designed to be part of the semester
exhibition at Media University in winter 2024 as an
installation about a crisis of our choice.
I decided to address the relentless consumerism of modern
society by contrasting the “sweet” gestures we make towards
our loved ones with the environmental consequences they
have.
The models were animaterd in Blender and projected using
mapping softwares.
SomeSwingGood is a jazz and pop choir that helps the
students from the music college in Cologne (HfMT Köln) to
practice as choir directors.
As a singer there since 2016, I had the chance to design
most of the choir's concert posters. Those experiences
counted as my first design experiences, and the exchanges
with the directors as clients made me realize the true
beauty of this work.
In 2023, I had the opportunity to rebrand the choir from the
ground up. I could apply my newly learned methods and
knowledge.
The most important challenge was to create a design that
could fit any director.
City of Lost Souls
As one of the multiple title designs done during my studies,
“The City of Lost Souls”, an imaginary film noir-styled TV
series following the tortured life of a law officer during
the last days of his career, showcases most of my trained
skills in the branch of title design.
The title design was created from scratch, developed over
storyboards, style frames, on-set filming, 3D modelling, and
typography design. The used software spans a large variety
from DaVinci Resolve to Adobe After Effects to Blender. Each
one was utilized to extract the most out of their tools like
camera tracking and compositing.
As for now I have had two occasions of creatinf UX/UI
designs for mobile apps as part of my studies. The first,
called
MyHMKW should be an alternive to my university's
online portal, both for people from inside like students and
teachers, as also for visitors. A VR and a AR aspect were
implemented by adding an AR wayfinder through the building
and the possibility to visit the exhibitions online.
The second app is a library app imagined to help every
possible user to use all of the public libraries assets.
Stollon
Thanks to several lectures by Prof. Dr. Schröppel, I found a
great interest in typeface design.
As part of my studies I experimented with various software
for typeface creation and acquired a Glyphs 3 license with
which several extensive typefaces were designed.
Stolon is a monospaced font inspired by the organic growth
of roots. Each glyph has 3 variants in different sizes that
are programmed to follow each other in a botanical pattern.
Where I come from, where we are going.
Media University Cologne
I achieved a bachelor of arts in graphic design with emphasis
on visual communication at the Cologne (Germany) based private
university for media, communication and commerce.
University of Cologne
I achieved a bachelor of science degree in astrophysics with a
focus on computer science. This study gave me the chance to
develop a pragmatic working style.
Further studies
During my time in university I had the opportunity to learn
other skills and to open myself to a range of other
experiences, such as an international Workshops in Paris
(France) and Rovaniemi (Finland), managing the content and
community of the ElAegilon YouTube channel and becoming a
Salsa teacher.

Online memory game
A homemade memory game using my designs for icons representing
litterary genres as they could be found in online and offline
bookshops. Could you spot them all?
Tree simulator
Lean back and relax while looking at the breeze blowing
through these branches or move your mouse around to push some
plants aside or even play god by planting an infinit variety
of trees.
